SIGMA Engineering - Know-How for the Plastic and Rubber Industry.
 The goal of SIGMA is to provide new insights into the production of rubber and plastic parts.
 
With three-dimensional simulation, a new tool for the optimization of poured or injected plastic parts is now available.
 
We know that the challenges in the rubber and plastic industry can only be overcome through a combination of technical knowledge, innovative sofware tools and competent service.
 
The development of 3D simulation of fluid flow for plastics processing is strongly coupled to the development of SIGMA and its R&D partners.
 
 Elastomers
The SIGMASOFT® elastomer module calculates the filling and curing of rubber parts.
 
Based upon the material data, the local Scorch Index and degree of crosslinkage/curing are predicted for the part. Consideration of inserts and the die with heating channels makes possible the calculation and optimization of cycle times.
 
Simulation results are displayed in three dimensions for the part and the mold. Critical parameters such as temperatures, pressures and velocities can be analyzed.
 
SIGMASOFT® offers an open database. Rheology and curing data are automatically approximated from measured curing and viscosity curves.
 
The air pressure in the cavity can be simulated under consideration of ventilation conditions.

Electronic components are often back filled with duromer resins under gravity.

With SIGMASOFT® the user can optimize the part and the tool with respect to optimal part quality and cycle times.
 
SIGMASOFT® is based on 3D volume elements. Parts with varying wall thickness can be simulated in the physical correct manner. Inserts and the tool are part of the model, both are calculated in 3D.
 Air entrapment can be analysed

SIGMA's parent company is MAGMA, who has played a leading roll in the development and application of simulation software for the casting industry over the last decade.

SIGMASOFT® filling solver is
based upon the Navier-Stokes equations and is therefore capable of predicting the fluid flow phenomena for gravity driven filling.

The SIGMASOFT Thermoset module allows to predict filling, curing and residual stresses for thermoset materials.
 
The filling calculation considers the curing reaction and the increasing viscosity. The curing reaction is calculated under consideration of the reaction enthalpy.
